A POPULAR furniture chain has filed for bankruptcy and has shut down 70 of its locations.
Conn's Home Plus has abruptly shut stores across 13 states following reports of poor sales.

The chain filed for Chapter 11 protection in a court in Texas, according to Bloomberg.
These financial troubles have reportedly been blamed on falling sales and issues integrating a rival company.
Conn's had bought out the chain W.S. Badco*ck last year in an attempt to grow.
The retailer has listed its assets and liabilities at around $1 billion each, according to court filings seen by Bloomberg.

Since filing for bankruptcy the store will be able to continue operating as it figure out a financial plan to save itself.
Despite this, the discount retailer recently shut 71 of its 553 locations.
Affected states included Texas, Florida, Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, according to the Conn's website.
Florida has been worst impacted by these closures as it is set to lose 18 stores.

Locations in major cities like Orlando and Tampa will soon be axed.
Texas, the state Conn's has been headquartered in, has also listed nine locations that will shut.
Retail Shifts: Big Lots & More Chains Closing
Although 71 locations have been confirmed, the chain will reportedly close 100 stores, according to a report from Bloomberg last week.
These 30 other stores will reportedly be Badco*ck locations.
Conn's has reportedly considered liquidating its inventory in response to financial troubles.
The chain was founded 134 years ago but started as a plumbing and heating company.

Conn's has since been know for its discounted home goods like TVs to sofas.
Recent years have seen the chain deal with financial blows.
For example, Conn's received a delinquency notification from the Nasdaq Stock Market for not filing its quarterly report by a set deadline, according to Retail Dive.
Conn's also reported losses of around $77 million in 2023, according to the Mail Online.
RETAIL NIGHTMARE
This chain has not been the only one to face troubles and axed dozens of stores.
Big Lots confirmed it would shut 35 to 40 stores this year, The U.S. Sun has previously reported.
Executives at the chain blamed the economy and inflation for these closures.

After this set of closures, the company will have 359 branches across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
